Hello and welcome to Nurture & Nanny’s August Newsletter!

July has come and gone and summer is coming to a close.  It’s almost time to put the flip flops back in the closet and take out the JanSport backpacks.  Time to get those pencils sharpened and hustle to get those summer assignments finished.

Flipping through the newspaper this morning I came across all the ‘Back to School’ sales and remembered fondly the days when I was a student and how I excited I was to begin the school year again after a summer of fun in the sun.  I remembered how important it was to have just the right outfit on the first day of school and how I pretended to dread going back to ‘that place’, but deep down inside I was thrilled to see my friends again and find my place among the crowded hallways and lockers.

As adults, we have so much piled onto our plates.  Work, deadlines, kids, dentist appointments, bills – the list goes on and on.  Through all this grown up ‘stuff’ it’s easy to forget the importance of building on childhood memories.  As a child I can remember my mom would carve a heart into my apple and leave me sweet notes on napkins that went into my brown bagged lunch - embarrassed then by the loving gesture that now makes me smile.  I remember trading pencils with the shy girl next to me in Elementary School.  Twenty two years later, that friendship continues to grow strong.  I remember being encouraged by my teachers to color outside of the lines, which made me decide to become an educator for many years right after college.

What will your children remember about their ‘younger years?’

Take the time to create these memories for your children because life really is all about the  little things.

All the best,

Lara
